Eighth place for Andrea Piras (Solution Tech NIPPO Rali), the first Italian at the finish of a stage that saw the orange jersey of Tom Crabbe (Flanders Baloise) lose contact several kilometers from the finish. THE RACE A very fast start discourages any type of attack in the initial phases, and this means that to see the first riders break away from the group, one must wait for the slopes of the Côte de Méjannes le Clap where Blake Agnoletto (Groupama-FDJ United), Kasper Haugland (Decathlon-CMA CGM), Sebastien Grignars (Lotto-Intermarchè), Alexis Renard (Cofidis), Alexys Brunel (TotalEnergies), Tomas Kopecky (Unibet Rose Rockets), Alexandre Balmer (Solution Tech NIPPO Rali), Leandre Huck (Van Rysel Roubaix), Theo Delacroix (St Michel - Preference Home - Auber93) and Victor Papon (Nice Métropole Côte d'Azur) manage to break away. With just over a minute's advantage over the peloton pulled by the Pinarello-Q36.5 men, the ten approach the two and a half laps of the 28-kilometer circuit around Bessegges, where the situation remains stationary until the first of the two passes at the Col de Trélis. Here, feeling the group at their heels (from which Walter Calzoni tries to escape without success for a moment), Brunel changes pace in the leading group, causing Agnoletto and Huck to lose the wheels of the breakaway. Eight riders thus arrive for the second time at the Col des Brousses, an ascent where, about thirty seconds behind them, Jordan Labrosse (Decathlon-CMA CGM) and Baptiste Vadic (TotalEnergies) break away in pairs to try to rejoin the head of the race, while the overall leader Tom Crabbe (Team Flanders-Baloise) loses contact. At the end of the descent, 32 kilometers from the finish, the two Frenchmen successfully join the escapees, bringing the number of units to ten in an action that, at the start of the final lap, maintains just 25 seconds of margin. Haugland's great work helps the attackers momentarily resist the return of the group and, subsequently, allows his teammate Labrosse to break away with Kopecky from the other adventure companions 24 kilometers from the finish line. Shortly after, in the group, the situation explodes with the attack of Ewen Costiou (Groupama-FDJ United), Paul Lapeira (Decathlon-CMA CGM), Dylan Teuns (Cofidis) and Ramses Debruyne (Alpecin-Premier Tech) which makes the difference, allowing the four to rejoin the head of the race. Shortly after, another ten men join them (including Lukas Kubis, Maxime Decomble, Vincent Van Hemelen, and Andrea Mifsud), forming a rather large group that, however, not finding the right collaboration, is caught at the beginning of the final climb towards the Col des Brousses by the previously dropped pursuers. Once again all together 14 km from the finish, Clement Izquierdo (Cofidis) then attacks in a solo attempt to take advantage of the control behind him, but a new acceleration by Labrosse lines up the peloton, quickly neutralizing his attempt. At the mountain grand prix, Costiou tries again to surprise the group, but the Frenchman is expertly controlled by the riders beside him, and thus, without anyone managing to break away, the best group (composed of about forty men) comes back together at the bottom of the descent. In the last seven kilometers, the Unibet men take command of operations, having the opportunity to play the Kubis card, they set to work for the Slovak. However, 2500 meters from the finish, the ever-persistent Teuns and Lapeira, along with seven other men, start decisively, carving out a gap of several hundred meters that initially frightens the team leaders. However, regaining control of the situation, they manage to curb the attackers' ardor in the last kilometer and ensure that the stage is decided by a sprint where, in the end, Henri Uhlig finds the right gap to win.
