Lorena Wiebes wins the opening stage of the UAE Women Tour, bringing her career victories in the Emirates race to seven and conquering the leader's jersey. At the conclusion of today's 111 kilometers from Al Mirfa to Madinat Zayed, the 26-year-old Dutch champion from SD Worx Protime beat Ireland's UAE Team ADQ rider Lara Gillespie and Britain's Zoe Bäckstedt, who sprinted for the CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto team. Fifth and best Italian at the finish line is Milan's Martina Alzini (Cofidis) while Rachele Barbieri (Team Picnic PostNL) finished ninth.

THE STAGE - The peloton remained practically compact throughout the stage except for a brief breakaway by Andrea Casagranda (Vini Fantini – BePink) and Elisa De Vallier (Top Girls Fassa Bortolo). The first Intermediate Sprint was won by Juliette Berthet Labous (FDJ United – SUEZ) ahead of her teammate Vittoria Guazzini and Pfeiffer Georgi; the second intermediate sprint saw Femke de Vries (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) sprint ahead of Franziska Koch and Alison Jackson.

In the last 7 kilometers, the sprint trains organized themselves with EF Education-Oatly, Visma Lease a Bike, and SD Worx Protime being very active, and UAE Team ADQ doing great work in the last 2000 meters for Gillespie. At the finish line, however, there was no contest: Wiebes celebrated her victory.

Tomorrow, the UAE Tour Women will offer the stage starting from Dubai Police Academy and finishing at Hamdan Bin Mohamed Smart University, where athletes will cycle for 145 kilometers.
