The crash that occurred yesterday during the third stage of the AlUla Tour has had serious consequences for Belgian rider Laurenz Rex of Soudal Quick Step.
The team writes this morning: "Following the incident in the third stage of the AlUla Tour, Laurenz Rex underwent further examinations that revealed a fracture of the spinous process of the third lumbar vertebra. Laurenz is in stable condition, but will need several weeks of rest before beginning rehabilitation. The entire Soudal Quick-Step and Wolfpack family wish Laurenz a speedy recovery".
And the rider adds: "I would like to thank the team doctor, the race medical staff, and everyone at the hospital for taking care of me, as well as all those who sent me messages and well-wishes: it was truly special. Now I will take some time to recover and hope to come back stronger".
An update on Laurenz's condition, the team informs, will be provided after further checks this week.
