Sprint calls and Martina Fidanza answers. The 26-year-old from Bergamo riding for Visma Lease a Bike won the sprint in the Cadel's Criterium, beating Marta Lach and Barbara Guarischi, both from Team Sd Worx Pro Time. The Australian race, part of the early season race block, replaced the Surf Coast Classic which was canceled due to bushfires and adverse weather conditions.
The women's race was held on a very fast circuit, 20 laps totaling 40 km that were animated by a series of attacks before the final sprint. "From the start, my team had a clear tactic: reach the sprint while also animating the race. My teammates tried to attack, played their cards forcing the group to chase. Fortunately, the finale was exactly as we had planned, they launched me perfectly and I just completed the work," Martina said immediately after the finish.
The next appointment in Australian territory is scheduled for Saturday, January 31st with the ninth edition of the Mapei Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race.
