With an unusual scheduling for cycling, the 2026 Elite Track European Championships will start on Sunday, February 1st (concluding on Thursday, February 5th). The event will be hosted in Konya, a city of approximately one million inhabitants in the heart of Anatolia, on the central plateau of Turkey, at just over 1000 meters of altitude. This marks the beginning of the international season that will culminate with the Shanghai World Championships in October, the first qualifying event for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
The Technical Commissioners Diego Bragato, Ivan Quaranta, Edoardo Salvoldi, and Marco Villa have called up 20 athletes. Simone Consonni, Elisa Balsamo, and Letizia Paternoster, who were absent from the World Championships in Chile, are returning to the National Team. In the women's endurance sector, notable are the presence of very young athletes Anita Baima and Linda Sanarini, both making their debut with the elite National Team. Federica Venturelli is also present, the sole survivor of the quartet that won the world title at the recent World Championships in Chile.
In the men's field, Consonni and Lamon lead a group largely composed of young athletes who have already gained experience in major international competitions. The group of sprinters is also almost entirely confirmed, with the addition of Fabio Del Medico, Matilde Cenci, and Siria Trevisan, making their debut at an Elite European Championship.
