Matteo Jorgenson is changing everything and choosing to strongly focus on Italy in the first part of the season. After dominating the last two editions of Paris-Nice, the American from Visma-Lease a Bike, who lives in Nice, will race Strade Bianche, Tirreno-Adriatico, and Milan-San Remo, will skip the Cobbled Classics, and then bet everything on the Ardennes Classics, especially Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
A small revolution for Jorgenson, who at 26 wants to take on an increasingly important status. "In reality, I would like to participate in all the spring Classics" (he won the Through Flanders in 2024, ed.), but choices must be made if you really want to achieve good results in the Ardennes. The last two years have been almost identical in terms of schedule, so I welcome a change. I hope the longer climbs of the Ardennes suit me better than the Flemish short climbs. That's how I feel."
Since 2024, when he left Movistar, Jorgenson has significantly improved and become one of the most trusted teammates for both Van Aert in the Cobbled Classics and Vingegaard at the Tour. In Italy, in spring, he will follow exactly the same program as Van Aert. He only raced Strade Bianche, Tirreno, and San Remo in 2020, the Covid year: his best result was at San Remo, won by Van Aert, where he finished 17th at 2". The same applies to Liège, which he raced in 2020 and 2021 with the Movistar jersey.
Given his characteristics, Jorgenson becomes one of the great favorites for Tirreno-Adriatico. And then he'll focus on Amstel Gold Race, Flèche Wallonne, and Liège: "I can't wait to race Liège-Bastogne-Liège. That's where I raise the bar, and that's what makes it such an exciting challenge. I hope to start the year with renewed energy and tackle a season different from last year". Then, once again, alongside Vingegaard at the Tour.
