The Union Cycliste Internationale announces that Portuguese cyclist António Carvalho Ferreira has been sanctioned with a four-year suspension following an Anti-Doping Regulation violation for use of a prohibited substance and/or forbidden method due to inexplicable anomalies in his Athlete Biological Passport in 2018, 2023, and 2024.
In accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code (Code) and UCI Anti-Doping Rules (UCI ADR), the suspension period began on November 4, 2025, and is valid until November 3, 2029.
The case was resolved through acceptance of the consequences provided by the Code and UCI ADR.
Carvalho is 36 years old and currently competes with Feirense Beeceler, a Continental team from Portugal where he was also riding during two of the investigated seasons. In 2018, Carvalho was racing with W52 Porto, a team previously involved in a genuine doping scandal.
