UAE Development Team is betting on the potential of another emerging Spanish cycling talent. The 18-year-old Celia Torres has signed a contract for the 2026 season. Originally from Madrid, born on October 10, 2007, in 2025 she achieved excellent results in the Junior Women's category, winning a stage and the overall classification of the Volta Osona, a time trial stage at Vuelta Cantabria, finished third in the general classification of Bizkaioloreak, a Nation Cup event, and came fourth in the time trial at the Spanish Championship.
Cycling is a family affair, as Celia Torres herself explains, just as UAE Team has become part of her family. "When I was very young, my parents would take me and my two brothers cycling almost every weekend, and I always liked it very much. When my brothers started racing bicycles, I would go every weekend to watch them compete and, since I really enjoyed the atmosphere, I couldn't resist trying it myself. Now we are all three in the big UAE family. My older brother, Pablo, races for the men's World Tour team, and my twin, Jaime, will join the Emirates Gen Z team this year. And I will be in the team's female Development Team."
In January 2025, Celia Torres had already participated in the preparation camp with UAE Development Team and "I chose to continue my career with this team because I believe it's a great opportunity that I don't want to waste, as I consider it one of the best international teams," confesses the 18-year-old Spaniard.
A complete cyclist, she excels uphill. For this reason, she particularly loves races with lots of climbing and mountain time trials. For the next year, she says: "I will approach the new season with great enthusiasm and excitement, and my main goals will be to learn as much as possible and secure a place for the future."
Celia Torres has clear ideas about the work to be done: "This is a great opportunity for me to learn and gain experience in higher-level races. I want to work hard to improve my technical skills and become a top-level athlete."
Melissa Moncada, president of UAE Team ADQ, said: "Our intent is to select the best talents in world cycling and help them in their growth path and then bring them to our WorldTour team, as has already happened in recent years with Lara Gillespie, Paula Blasi, and Federica Venturelli. The Spanish rider Celia Torres is certainly a very promising talent, we believe in her potential and can't wait to see her work in our team."
