Is Milan about to breathe the air of Six Days again? It certainly seems so, as the restoration of the Palazzo delle Scintille, now renamed CityOval, will be completed in less than a month. It will be this liberty-style pavilion in the shadow of the three towers that will "spark" in the city with the grand return of the Six Days, the historic track cycling race, in 2026.
The inauguration of CityOval, as explained by colleague Marta Bravi in Il Giornale, is scheduled for next January, with the lineup of cultural and entertainment events that the City Life company is discussing with the Municipality. With its 8,200 square meters of covered surface spread over two floors, it is a candidate to be the perfect location for fashion shows, Fuori Salone exhibitions, or events that attract large crowds like Book City or Piano City. The goal of the restoration project is to return CityOval Milano to the function for which it was built in 1923: a covered public square and a new reference point for major events in the city.
And among these major events is the Six Days: at the moment, the CityLife company is addressing the issue of the track's dimensions, as the size of the historic removable track is no longer the same as the competitions now held on shorter circuits.
Therefore, in collaboration with the Italian Cycling Federation, structural checks are ongoing to decide the placement of the track to allow the public to watch the races with a perfect view.
