15 World Tour stage races were held in 2025, from the Tour Down Under in January to the Tour of Guangxi that ended on October 19th. Tadej Pogacar and Joao Almeida were the best with three victories each. The Slovenian confirmed his world number one status by winning UAE Tour, Criterium du Dauphine and especially the Tour de France, while the Portuguese rider had the best season of his career by winning the Tour of the Basque Country, Tour de Romandie and Tour of Switzerland.
Among the eight nations capable of achieving at least one victory, Slovenia leads with four victories, including Primoz Roglic's win at the Volta a Catalunya. Italy remains without significant results. The last victory in the final classification of a World Tour stage race is still Sonny Colbrelli's at the Benelux Tour 2021 (currently Renewi Tour). In the recently concluded season, five podium finishes were achieved: Ciccone 2nd at UAE Tour, Ganna 2nd at Tirreno-Adriatico, Tiberi 3rd at Tirreno-Adriatico and 2nd at Tour of Poland, Sobrero 3rd at Tour of Poland.
Encouraging signals also come from examining individual stages. Italian cycling has won 14 stages, with 7 of them thanks to Jonathan Milan. In total, 18 nations have conquered at least one stage in the main UCI circuit. Belgium leads with 20 stage wins.
