Jonas Vingegaard is now the master of the Vuelta and has a desire to come to Italy soon to race the Giro. The pink race fascinates him, but he also knows that the media importance of the Tour de France is higher, and in the coming months, he and his team will verify if and when he can come to the race.
"The Vuelta is one of the three grand tours, so it's wonderful to have won it" - Vingegaard explained during the press conference - Winning this Vuelta is more important in terms of result than the second place at the Tour de France, but considering what I experienced and thinking about last year, that second place after the crash at the Tour of the Basque Country was perhaps my most important result personally. After what I had been through, I would never have thought I could achieve that second place".
There are rumors about Vingegaard participating in the Giro d'Italia next year, and the Dane explained that the pink race is a desire of his, but everything will be decided later.
"Regarding the Giro next year, of course, I would like to be there, but it also depends on the schedule. Normally, yes, the Tour is the Tour and I will probably have to do the Grande Boucle again, but we still have to see".
In the last two years, Jonas Vingegaard has finished second in the yellow race behind Tadej Pogacar, who is currently undoubtedly the most difficult rider to beat. The Dane respects his opponent and accepts coming second when there is a strong rider like the Slovenian in the race.
"Of course, when I race against Tadej, I would like to beat him, but I know he is a very strong opponent and very difficult to beat. But if I go to a race and he is also there, obviously I want to win and I enjoy challenging him".
The Dane will not race the World Championships in Rwanda and prefers to participate in the European Championships, the race with which he will end his season.
"When you race a grand tour, you always learn something, but you only understand it after a few weeks, so it will be the same for the Vuelta. As I've already said, I won't be at the World Championships in Africa, while I will participate in the European Championships, which have a course that suits a rider like me better".
