The second week of the Vuelta a España has opened under a good star for Visma – Lease a bike, with Jonas Vingegaard returning to wear the red jersey of race leader. The Dane now has a 26" advantage over Torstein Træen and 38" over Joao Almeida.
"I am extremely happy to be wearing the red jersey again. It's truly incredible: it's fantastic to wear this iconic jersey that symbolizes the race, and it was also nice to be on the podium with Miguel Indurain. He is truly an extraordinary champion."
At the Larra Belagua finish line, Miguel Indurain was present at the awards ceremony, where he was able to exchange a few words with Jonas Vingegaard. "About Indurain, I can only have positive words. He is a legend of this sport, a legend of our sport. So it was an honor to be on the stage with him."
The Dane has returned to wearing the leader's jersey, and his ideas are clear: he wants to keep the red jersey until Madrid. "I am always happy to wear the leader's jersey. It is one of the most beautiful jerseys in cycling. I am happy to have taken it back and, of course, we will work to keep it until Madrid. I have no intention of giving it up."
UAE Team Emirates captain Joao Almeida tried several times to attack Vingegaard towards the finish line, but without success.
"Joao was really strong yesterday. Fortunately, I managed to follow him. The Vuelta is not over and there are still many difficult days ahead, but I want to keep this jersey."
