At the Tour de l'Avenir, Mexico is proving that its young riders have a bright future. The "little brothers" of Isaac Del Toro are showing promise and growing in that gem that is the Petrolike Team, born from the glorious history of the unforgettable Androni Giocattoli - Sidermec.
Marco Bellini, team manager of the Mexican formation, applauds his riders who are currently collecting impressive results at the Under 23 Tour de France wearing their National jersey and anticipates a satisfying end of the year.
"So far it has been a good season. We have obtained 7 victories, including the stage win at the Giro d'Abruzzo with Edison Callejas and important successes in ProSeries and category .1 races, but what gratifies us the most is having offered our riders a highly respectable international experience. In my opinion, a Continental team today makes sense if it serves as a talent forge and launching pad for young riders, as Development teams do, and we do with a high-level calendar and the professionalism we can guarantee," begins the 56-year-old Piedmontese, who has been by Gianni Savio's side for a lifetime.
"The Petrolike project was born to help Mexican riders grow and accumulate international experience, alongside them with European and other nationalities' riders, and a prepared staff that can help the entire group take a qualitative leap. Our cornerstones are trainer Fabrizio Tacchino, sports directors Andrea Peschi and Colombian Omar Mendoza, nutritionist Cristiano Caporali. We can count on the consulting of Dr. Andrea Andreazzoli and the support of essential partners like Androni, Sidermec, and Fonte Vigezzo," continues Bellini, who will soon find himself leading a Professional team, and perhaps something more in the future.
Petrolike wanted to make the jump to Professional category already in 2026, but it was the manager from Biella who suggested moving one step at a time. "Facing the category upgrade would require having 10/12 Mexican riders already ready to sustain an even higher-level calendar. From my experience, I suggested not burning the stages and giving young riders another season to mature. The results coming from the Avenir confirm that we are moving in the right direction, there's no need to rush," concludes Bellini, who between September and October will follow the Petrolike team in a packed race calendar, which includes Italian classics.
