A tragic news comes from Ecuador, precisely from the roads of the Vuelta Ciclista Junior a la Ribera del Duero: during the second stage, a fall occurred in which one of the riders lost his life.
The stage was the queen stage of the short stage race and featured three climbs before the final ascent to Laguna Negra de Vinuesa. Shortly after the middle of the stage, a mass crash occurred, the race was neutralized because all the support ambulances were called to work and unfortunately for a young rider - whose details and team were not provided by the organizers - there was nothing that could be done despite immediate medical assistance.
The stage, which as mentioned was neutralized, was ultimately canceled. And it was the UCI late at night that revealed that the rider who lost his life was Iván Meléndez Luque, a Malaga cyclist from the Tenerife-Cabberty team: he was only 17 years old.
