A princely presence this morning at the Vuelta's starting lineup. And it is certainly no coincidence that Prince Albert of Monaco's participation in the event is notable, because the Principality will host the grand start of the Spanish race in 2026. The first pedal stroke will be on August 22, 2026, as illustrated by Kiko Garcia, technical director of the Spanish race, and Sir Gary Verity, spokesperson for the organizing committee, a British businessman who also organized the Tour de France 2014 start from Leeds.
And also of English origin is the testimonial and ambassador for the Monegasque start, namely the former professional Nicholas Roche, who also wore the red jersey during his career: "For me, this assignment is an honor because I spent 90 percent of my professional life in Monaco, and the Vuelta is the race of my heart," Nicholas explained.
Obviously, the route selection is still top secret, but the first rumors speak of two stages with Monaco as starting and/or finishing points, then a stage in French territory before arriving in Spain with stage number 4.
