His last race was the Giro dell'Appennino on June 25th, which would have potentially ended differently if not for that crash while chasing Diego Ulissi with French rider Louis Barré. Instead, Lorenzo Mark Finn only suffered a rib fracture.
A week of rest, then back in the saddle, in Sicily, in the Nebrodi Park, where the climbs offer a scenery without equal. A few days at home and off again, to Tignes in Savoy where, next Saturday, a time trial will mark the start of the Tour de l'Avenir.
"I've tried the time trial course, which is definitely interesting despite the short distance, and I've also tackled the climbs of the main stages". Finn is cautious, aiming for the podium, which step he'll reach will be decided by his rivals and the road.
He'll return home just before mid-August. In Salto, in the municipality of Avegno, he lives with his family. The ideal starting point for training. Leaving home, he doesn't go right towards the sea and the busy Via Aurelia, but looks left, towards Val Fontanabuona to tackle the Scoglina climb, the road where in 2015, in the opposite direction, during the third stage of the Giro d'Italia, Rapallo - Sestri Levante, Domenico Pozzovivo fell, leaving viewers anxious for several minutes.
Once at the top, he continues along the beautiful and less trafficked roads of Val d'Aveto and Passo della Forcella before returning to Golfo Paradiso. Last Saturday, together with Alessandro Colò, he rode the stage of the Giro della Lunigiana that will start from Genoa on Thursday, September 4th. The first stage practically passes right in front of his house. His bond with the Giro della Lunigiana and its patron Lucio Petacchi is strong, with two participations and two second places. Sunday evening, a barbecue with his parents, girlfriend, and a small group of friends. They talk, obviously about cycling, and joke around.
The calm before the storm. From Thursday, things get serious, with a meeting scheduled with Marino Amadori, U23 National Team coach, and his teammates. They'll depart, heading to France with the intention - needless to say - of doing well. Finn looks at you with that sly smile, he's determined, he believes. After Avenir, an incredibly intense schedule: two races in Italy with professionals, the Pantani and Matteotti, before flying to Rwanda for the U23 World Championships. The course is interesting, suits Finn's characteristics, he can do well there, very well. But that's not all, in early October in France, in the Ardèche and Drôme departments, there are the European Championships, and again the course is suitable, it's impossible not to think about it. But for now, let's enjoy the cool of Salto, the splendid grill of Peter and Chiara, and savor a slice of cake, the background is yellow, the inscription can only be: "Lollo make us dream". The calm before the storm.
