"A dream come true". The 21-year-old Irish rider Jamie Meehan, who joined Cofidis as a trainee at the beginning of August, has just signed a three-year contract. Trained at VC Aix, he distinguished himself during the Tour de l'Ain, his first race with the Cofidis jersey, which prompted the sports management to immediately offer him a contract. And it's certain, he hasn't finished surprising everyone!

Meehan is accustomed to tough races, where the weather is unpredictable, where roads are winding and no one counts the fatigue. Jamie Meehan took his first pedal strokes at home in Ireland, developing his skills as an attacker and especially as a climber. This great hope of Irish cycling has patiently refined his know-how, particularly by joining the AVC Aix club this year. His qualities convinced the Cofidis staff to give him a chance as a trainee.

On August 6th, Jamie raced at the Tour de l'Ain with his new teammates. The integration was more than rapid: from the second stage, he managed to hold his own against the best and secured an incredible 3rd place! At the end of this three-day race, he finished 14th in the general classification and most importantly, 3rd best young rider.

Excellent performances that go hand in hand with his ability to adapt very quickly to the team's functioning. Subsequently, the sports management, led by Cédric Vasseur, decided to take an unusual step in terms of timing and approach: offering him a contract for the next three years. Jamie didn't hesitate to accept, seeing it as "a dream come true".

The beautiful story between the AVC Aix club and the Cofidis team continues. Many cyclists who passed through the club have become professionals. This is the case of Christophe Laporte, Anthony Pérez, and more recently Oliver Knight and Clément Izquierdo. Like them, Jamie hopes to continue progressing. On Sunday, he will be part of the Cofidis team at the Polynormande. Then, he will race with his national jersey at the Tour de l'Avenir before joining Cofidis for the next three seasons!
