The Poland Tour could not have ended better for Chiara Consonni, who through an incredible move managed to take both the final stage and the overall classification. A heart-stopping finale for this last day of racing, with the peloton only catching the day's breakaway rider in the last 200 meters, and then the Bergamo native making the difference.
While the first two stages had seen sprint finishes, the third day of racing gave us a beautiful and by no means predictable finale. The group pedaled 128.1 km from Naleczow to Kraznik on a course without particular altitude challenges. Most of the race was characterized by the breakaway of Anne Knijnenburg (VolkerWessels Cycling Team) and Marie Louise Krogager (Denmark), who managed to gain up to 2 minutes of advantage while the peloton tried to keep the situation under control. For about fifteen kilometers, Nikol Plosaj (Torunski Klub) and Romina Hinojosa (Lotto Ladies) tried to launch a pursuit without ever managing to get back to the head of the race.
In the last 20 km, several attack attempts followed, promptly closed by Canyon Sram with the clear objective of arriving in a sprint. Anne Knijnenburg, however, gritted her teeth and took advantage of the group's indecision, coming close to an incredible victory. Canyon Sram entered the action very late, but with an incredible forcing managed to get close to the breakaway leader. Chiara Consonni then completed the work with an attack in the last 200 meters, managing to drop all her rivals. At the day's finish line, second place went to Linda Zanetti (Uno X Mobility), Emma Norsgaard (Lidl Trek), and Maria Giulia Confalonieri (Uno X Mobility).
Chiara Consonni's Polish expedition thus concludes with two victories out of three available, a beautiful overall success, and the points classification.
"Today, the first objective of the day was to take bonus seconds at the first intermediate sprint. I succeeded in the first, but not the second because there was a breakaway in front. I want to thank the entire team because they did an incredible job. Maybe we didn't have the best train, but day after day we tried to improve, and I believe today we achieved the best possible result," Chiara Consonni said immediately after the finish line.
