The victory conquered at the 2025 Clasica San Sebastian allowed Giulio Ciccone to become the 64th cyclist this season to win World Tour races, the seventh Italian after Jonathan Milan, Filippo Ganna, Andrea Vendrame, Lorenzo Fortunato, Christian Scaroni and Vincenzo Albanese. The same number of winners recorded by Great Britain and only two behind Australia, the leader with 9.
Italian cycling celebrated its 13th World Tour victory in 2025, climbing to third place in the nations ranking, behind only Slovenia (leader with 19) and Belgium (second with 15). Ciccone's triumph breaks a long drought for our movement. In the last three and a half seasons, the only successes in the main UCI circuit had come in individual stages of stage races.
To find an Italian capable of winning a one-day race or the final classification of a stage race in the World Tour circuit, we must go back to October 3, 2021, when Sonny Colbrelli triumphed at Paris-Roubaix. Since then, 128 World Tour races had concluded without Italian riders able to write their name in the winner's list. A drought finally broken by Ciccone's feat!
