Investigations by the police and UCI are still ongoing regarding the serious accident that occurred yesterday in Zwevegem, where the last stage of the Baloise Ladies Tour concluded.
At the exit of the last corner, three athletes were literally thrown to the right side of the road, hitting the curb and narrowly missing - at least according to the footage from fixed cameras - a portable toilet placed in that location. Dutch rider Charlotte Kool and Belgian Fien Van Eynde fell, but especially the American Alexis Magner (Cynisca Cycling).
The condition of the latter immediately appeared very serious: Sporza.be reports that the athlete remained motionless and unconscious after violently hitting her sternum. Magner was resuscitated on site by the MUG, a medical team specialized in emergency care, and was then transferred to the hospital, where she underwent surgery. At the moment, neither the hospital nor the athlete's team have provided updates on the medical condition of the athlete born in Ventura on August 18, 1994.
