Double appointment today with the Appennine Tour: 86th edition for the men's race, debut for the women's race. In the men's race, three WorldTour teams are registered (UAE Emirates XRG, Xds Astana and Intermarchè Wanty with several young riders), four ProTeam formations including three Italian teams and a large group of Continental teams hunting for a prestigious result.

ROUTE. The men's race route proposes the 12th finish in Via XX Settembre, 26 years after the first one that concluded the 1999 race. The passage through Guardia is confirmed for the fifth consecutive year, after the crowd success of previous editions. And the start from Arquata Scrivia is repeated, which has now "adopted" U.S. Pontedecimo Cycling with great enthusiasm.

A race of just over 200 kilometers, very nervous with 2,898 meters of elevation gain. After gathering in Arquata Scrivia, there will be a transfer in front of the Elah Dufour Novi plant where the official start will take place at 11:45. The Appennine Tour never forgets the past: the Km zero will be dedicated to Cav. Flavio Repetto, who for many years believed in the sporting and social value of the Appennine Tour.

After passing in front of the Champions Museum in Novi and Pasturana, theaters of many gatherings in recent editions, the race will come to life.

The Castagnola Pass after 55 km will be the first difficulty of the day. After Giovi and Crocetta d'Orero, the decisive part of the race will arrive: first the hairpins along the Bocchetta with slopes up to 18%. Then at Pietralavezzara, a left turn will be made to go, after a challenging descent towards Isoverde, to tackle the Guardia: slopes of 7 and 8% to reach the 500-meter wall with slopes at 21% in the Lencisa area.

A steep descent towards Genoa with a passage under the San Giorgio Bridge, Sopraelevata and then a grand finale on Via XX Settembre. Five mountain grand prizes. The highest peak of the race is located at Guardia at 733 meters. The kilometers in the metropolitan city of Genoa are 141, equal to 71% of the total.

The best overall placement in the 86th Appennine Tour combined with the 62nd Trofeo Laigueglia will award the Liguria Challenge in its eighth edition.

FAVORITES. Among the most anticipated riders are the Italians Ulissi, Piganzoli, Velasco, Covi, Scalco, Petilli, Quartucci, Busato and the young Finn racing on home roads, then Barré, Fagundez, Diaz, Tsarenko, Kamp and Novak.

WOMEN. The women's race, as mentioned at the first edition, features a lineup of Continental teams with many young riders who will seek an opportunity to stand out. For them, departure from Novi Ligure and arrival in Genoa after 92.6 km.
