One year after the success of Treviso clubs, the eighth edition of the Smania Idee Casa Trophy, combined with the 5th Franco and Davide Favaretto Trophy, was won by Varese-based junior category rider, Erja Giulia Bianchi, representing the Team Biesse Carrera Zambelli.
The Lombardy athlete imposed herself at the end of an extremely tight and compact sprint, beating athletes from the higher Under category, such as Vittoria Grassi from Rivoli of the Bepink Imatra Bongioanni team and Serena Semoli from Tuscany of the Horizons Cycling Club.
It was a beautiful and fiercely contested race held in scorching heat, which after several breakaway attempts resolved in a final sprint where Varese's Erja Giulia Bianchi delivered a powerful sprint that left her opponents with no chance, many of whom were already savoring victory. The race, organized by the Smania family, with Walter's direction, was realized in collaboration with Bici & Bike from San Donà di Piave and the Favaretto family, and was set on a very fast flat circuit of 6.8 kilometers that was repeated multiple times.
162 athletes participated in the race, creating a beautiful and exciting competition. For Erja Giulia Bianchi, born in Varese on August 8, 2007, this was her second victory of the season. Her previous win was in Emilia-Romagna, specifically in Nonantola (Modena) at the City of Nonantola Trophy on March 9th. In addition to these two victories, she also achieved 2 second places, 5 third places, 3 sixth places, and 1 eighth place. For her team, this was the third seasonal success.
The 8th Smania Idee Casa-5th Davide and Franco Favaretto Trophy served as an important proving ground for upcoming highly anticipated events in the season, starting with the Italian Championships to be held on Saturday, June 28th in Darfo Boario Terme, in Valle Camonica, Brescia province (the last time the championships were held here was in 2016, won by Elena Cecchini) and the 36th edition of the Women's Giro d'Italia, which will start on July 6th from Bergamo and conclude on the 13th at the Imola Autodrome.
