Today, Tuesday, June 3rd, some of the main protagonists of women's cycling conducted a strategic reconnaissance of the Pianezze climb, which will be the decisive finish of the fourth stage of the upcoming Giro d'Italia Women, scheduled for Wednesday, July 9th, 2025.
Elisa Longo Borghini, Silvia Persico, Lorena Wiebes, Barbara Guarischi, and sisters Letizia and Giorgia Borghesi departed from Valdobbiadene's town square, accompanied by 2008 World Champion Alessandro Ballan, to preview the hairpin turns characterizing the final ascent to Pianezze, a new finish that promises excitement and potential shake-ups in the general classification.
With its 11.2 kilometers and an average gradient of 7%, the climb to Pianezze will be one of the fundamental turning points of the Giro: the athletes tackled the route with great attention, analyzing key sections and listening to the advice of Alessandro Ballan, an exceptional guide for this reconnaissance.
Upon reaching the summit, Elisa Longo Borghini explained: "The first part of the climb is very tough, then it becomes more rideable. This finish will certainly provide a first shake-up to the classification; the Pianezze climb will be the first test for those aiming for the Pink Jersey in this Giro d'Italia Women."
The countdown begins towards July 9th, when the city of Valdobbiadene and the Pianezze climb will welcome fans and champions of the Giro d'Italia Women.
