A packed crowd set the stage for the women's race at the Cycling Stars Criterium, an increasingly prestigious event in the post-Giro d'Italia calendar. European champion Lorena Wiebes (Team SD Worx-Protime) emerged victorious at the city center finish line, delivering a win marked by strength and class, ahead of Italian champion Elisa Longo Borghini (Team UAE ADQ) and local favorite Soraya Paladin (CANYON//SRAM zondacrypt).
The race unfolded on a one-kilometer circuit in the city center, featuring continuous attacks and accelerations. The athletes held nothing back, providing thrilling moments for the spectators lining the barriers. The decisive moment came three laps from the finish, when Wiebes and Longo Borghini made a decisive move that split the peloton.
In the final meters, the Dutch sprinter unleashed her full power, leaving even the multi-titled Longo Borghini behind and crossing the finish line with arms raised. Behind them, completing a high-level podium, came Soraya Paladin in third place.
"I always enjoy racing in Italy, the event is well-organized, and I'm happy to be here tonight. The weather wasn't very kind, but we gave our all and I really had fun," enthusiastically commented Lorena Wiebes.
During the evening of great stars, there was also space for junior category girls racing alongside the champions. Among the young cycling promises, the first to cross the finish line was Giorgia Pellizotti, daughter of a cycling legend.
An evening of sport, enthusiasm, and passion that once again confirmed the Cycling Stars Criterium as one of the most beloved events by both the public and the cycling protagonists.
