It was truly a special ride that took place yesterday in Cesano Maderno as part of "A Ride in the Giro", the amateur cycling initiative dedicated to clients and cycling enthusiasts, organized by Banca Mediolanum along the Giro d'Italia stages. A unique opportunity to experience the Giro atmosphere firsthand, anticipating the race and pedaling alongside the great champions who made Italian cycling history: Maurizio Fondriest, Francesco Moser, and Dalia Muccioli. Moreover, yesterday's ride was "inclusive" and featured the participation of para-athletes Fabrizio Macchi and Nicola Dutto. And it is precisely to them that we asked to share their emotions.
Nicola Dutto, a motorcyclist who suffered a serious accident in 2010, is the first paraplegic pilot to have participated in the Dakar in 2019. "These rides are always a great celebration, yesterday's particularly moved me because I could see the true para-cycling athletes. I'm not a Paralympic athlete, the world of motorcycles is not an Olympic sport, but comparing and sharing through the Giro d'Italia and initiatives like this organized by Banca Mediolanum always unleashes a multitude of genuine emotions that are often muffled in motorcycling."
Fabrizio Marchi boasts two para-cycling world championships and a Paralympic medal from the Athens Games. "Banca Mediolanum is truly making a tremendous effort. Today I would like to talk about the Foundation for Research on Cystic Fibrosis, it is very important to help these people in their journey. In recent years, there have been many successes, it is necessary to raise awareness for people to undergo specific tests, 1 in 30 could be a healthy carrier, and therefore help with the 5x1000 makes a difference. We have had an extremely fortunate life, everyone should have the opportunity to realize their dreams. And the message of today's ride could be precisely this: let's all pedal together to defeat these diseases."
