Less than a month remains until the Italian Para-Cycling World Cup event. The international competition, which the cycling societies Cellina Bike and Fontanafredda have the pleasure and honor of organizing on behalf of the UCI, will take place on the Friulian roads of Maniago and Montereale Valcellina from May 15th to 18th.
The Local Organizing Committee, coordinated by Nevio Alzetta, is finalizing the last details to provide a global showcase for the Western Friuli territory with its landscape and entrepreneurial characteristics, and to ensure optimal hospitality for athletes, technicians, accompanying staff, journalists, and enthusiasts who will follow the anticipated competition.
The Para-Cycling World Cup event will be officially presented on Thursday, May 8th, in the machine room of the former "Antonio Pitter" Hydroelectric Power Plant in Malnisio. This historic facility, located in the municipality of Montereale Valcellina, was operational from 1903 to 1991 for electricity production using the waters of the Cellina stream, and was subsequently renovated in 2006 as an exhibition and museum space.
Honorary guests of the inaugural evening, which will begin at 8 PM, alongside civil and sports authorities, will include prominent Paralympic personalities such as Riccardo Favaro (canoeing), Davide Franceschetti (bronze medalist at Paris 2024 Games, shooting), Stefania Galasso (fin swimming), Elisa Martin (free climbing), and Umberto Pellis (tennis).
Returning to the purely competitive aspects of the World Cup event, the trials will be evenly distributed: time trials will be held on Thursday, May 15th and Friday, May 16th in Montereale Valcellina, while road races and team relay will take place on Saturday, May 17th and Sunday, May 18th in Maniago.
Over 350 athletes are registered, representing all continents. Among them are some authentic stars that will be revealed in the coming days.
