LUCCA, THE POLICE DEPARTMENT RIDE MEDIO FONDO IS BORN: RACE ON SUNDAY, CHAMPIONS ARRIVING?

The Police Department Ride, born in the Seventies, is an icon of Lucca cycling. For decades, cyclists of all levels have been meeting twice a week to ride together the 70 km of this historic route, which crosses locations like Filettole, Nodica, Vecchiano, Camaiore, and Monte Magno, until returning from Freddana.
On March 23, 2025, this tradition will evolve into a major official event: the first Medio Fondo Police Department Ride, starting at 10:15 AM from the Moreno Martini Sports Field in Lucca. Three starting grids will organize participants to tackle a competitive and fascinating route, which has seen champions like Mario Cipollini and Michele Bartoli. Will we see any of these champions at the start? Maybe even Re Leone, who celebrates his 58th birthday just on Saturday? Possible surprises incoming... The event's finish line will be at the original Monte San Quirico arrival, honoring the ride's tradition.
Subsequently, cyclists will reach the Moreno Martini Sports Field, the event's headquarters, where they can use showers, participate in the pasta party, and attend the awards ceremony. Thanks to the organization of Tuscany Legend SSDRL, over 115 people and 30 motorcycle support vehicles will ensure safety and fluidity, transforming this event into a unique experience.
The goal is ambitious: to make the Police Department Ride a reference point for cycling in Tuscany and beyond, keeping alive the passion and spirit that made it a legend. The event involves the municipal territories of: Lucca, Viareggio, Camaiore, Pescaglia, Massarosa, Vecchiano.
