"Now, when people ask me if I did the Tour, I can answer 'yes'". Kasia Niewiadoma, Évita Muzic, Elisa Longo Borghini... The champions of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift celebrate the new era opened in 2022, allowing the virtuosos of the Petite Reine to take all the spotlight they deserve. "We were missing a reference race for everyone, and that race is the Tour de France, the most beautiful race in the world," explains the event director Marion Rousse on the occasion of International Women in Sports Day, Friday, January 24.
Each year, this event encourages the development of women's participation in sports, women's presence in sports governance bodies, the economy of women's sports, and its media coverage. It is precisely in this movement that the birth and rise of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift is inscribed.
"The start of the Women's Tour made me feel that our sport had truly reached a professional level," says Annemiek van Vleuten, winner of the 2022 edition. "At first, it seemed like something for the guys, but seeing Marianne Vos wear it made me realize we were really fighting for this jersey." The event is broadcast on television in 190 countries, and the latest edition, with its epic epilogue on the slopes of Alpe d'Huez, generated 120 million views on social networks. The first Grand Départ from abroad brought together 250,000 spectators between Rotterdam and The Hague, in the Netherlands. The Fan Zones and race route attract tens of thousands of spectators daily at the start, finish, and roadside.
According to a Kantar study conducted in 2024, 65% of the audience is familiar, and viewers are present for an average of 4 hours and 29 minutes to fully immerse themselves in the event. The media indicators reflect a true evolution, whose effects have already been observed, explains Marion Rousse: "This visibility has an impact on partners and their investments". "Salaries are higher," said South African Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio, who extended her career to experience the Tour and has since maintained her place in the world group.
Also, the French Cycling Federation, partner of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift with the "Elles arrivent" operation, which allows 48 young licensed female cyclists to pedal on part of the champions' route, has recorded a significant increase in the number of women with licenses, almost 20% between 2021 and 2024.
In 2025, riders have a new appointment with L'Étape du Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift 2025, to fly to Col de la Madeleine on August 2, 2025, under the same conditions as professionals, who this year will exceed the 1,000-kilometer race threshold with 9 stages. "Longer and more challenging stage races bring even more attention and promotion, and hopefully encourage even more women to jump on a bike," anticipates Kasia Niewiadoma, who won the title in 2024.
The Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift on screens Since 2022, the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift has become the most-watched cycling race after the Tour, with 5,400 cumulative hours of transmission internationally (190 territories). In 2024, the race was followed by 17 million French, with a peak of almost 3.5 million viewers at the arrival at Alpe d'Huez.
The average audience for women's races in the Ardennes in Belgium was multiplied by 3 between 2023 and 2024, with a 62% audience share on VRT1 at the arrival of the Liège-Bastogne-Liège Femmes. The Paris-Roubaix Femmes avec Zwift was an immediate success when it was created in the fall of 2021. During the last edition, a peak audience of 1.4 million viewers was recorded for the arrival at the velodrome (+8% compared to 2023).
