EVA LECHNER IN NAMUR, BETWEEN MEMORIES, PODIUMS AND A MISSED WORLD CUP VICTORY
CYCLOCROSS | 14/12/2024 | 07:55
The thirty-nine-year-old champion Eva Lechner could not make her seasonal debut in the Cyclocross World Cup in Cabras, as the race in Sardinia was cancelled for safety reasons due to the extremely strong wind on the circuit. The Ale Cycling Team rider will therefore make her World Cup debut this Sunday in Belgium at the Namur race. The event in the capital of Wallonia is one of the most traditional World Cup races, and in 11 participations Lechner has climbed the podium three times: 2nd place in 2016, 3rd place in 2015 and 2017.
"This is absolutely my favorite race, I've never managed to win but I love it so much - confesses the rider from Bolzano -. It's a course that reminds me a lot of mountain bike routes, all up and down, very technical and there's always a bit of mud. You need to know how to handle the bike on a track that is tough but at the same time fun. The terrible cold has made me lose a week of training and I need to recover a bit, but now I'm well and I feel like my condition is coming back. The level of competitors in Namur is very high, let's see what we can do, always giving everything I have and above all always enjoying myself".
The Women's Open race will take place on Sunday, December 15th, starting at 1:40 PM.
