2024 OF MOTOSTAFFETTA FRIULANA, THE YEAR OF SOLIDARITY

The social and sports activities for the members of MOTOSTAFFETTA FRIULANA OdV are coming to an end. "The association was founded in 2000, but considering the number of enthusiasts, it was officially established in 2007 as a volunteer organization. The activity focuses on escorting sports events, primarily in the cycling sector," says Daniele Decorte, President of MOTOSTAFFETTA FRIULANA.
"The pride of Motostaffetta Friulana is the escort and relay of the 'cyclones'." The 'cyclones' are people with disabilities who, seated in specially modified wheelchairs, perform long road races using only the strength of their arms. This activity represents for participants a way to integrate into the sports world, where they reach speeds close to cycling races. The wheelchairs and athletes are no more than 1 meter high from the ground and represent a hardly visible obstacle to road users, which is why the escort of Motostaffetta Friulana members is particularly important and significant in helping less fortunate people integrate into the world of sports," illustrates Loris Marioni, a member of MOTOSTAFFETTA FRIULANA.
"34 volunteers make up the group based in Rive d'Arcano; authorized for technical escort service, a figure provided for in the Highway Code that supplements the task of the State Police, ensuring regular and safe road conduct during sports events," says Dino Dell'Oste, a long-standing member of MOTOSTAFFETTA FRIULANA.
In 2024, the members of MOTOSTAFFETTA FRIULANA were particularly engaged in social activities, and the project called No alla Solit'Udine proved to be noteworthy. No alla Solit'Udine is a Proximity Service that offers personalized responses to the needs of elderly residents in Udine, improving the quality of life for those who are alone or in fragile conditions, especially if alone or in a condition of fragility and adult citizens residing in Udine, especially if alone and in conditions of health vulnerability duly certified by medical documentation. The members of MOTOSTAFFETTA FRIULANA, aboard their agile motorcycles, seek to achieve the objectives of improving comfort situations, promoting the reconstruction of individual social networks, and expanding the offer of concrete responses within their living environment.
"Concretely, they offer to collect and deliver medical reports, collect and deliver medications at home, run small errands, book visits/exams and services." "A similar initiative involves the members of MOTOSTAFFETTA FRIULANA in the hilly sector," says Fabrizio Buiatti of MOTOSTAFFETTA FRIULANA. Regarding sports activities, multiple initiatives involved the volunteers of MOTOSTAFFETTA FRIULANA, starting from April and ending in November.
The members of MOTOSTAFFETTA FRIULANA ensured safety, in addition to youth cycling and running road events, at some national and international events such as: "The 69th edition of the Coppa Montes cycling race, which took place on one of the most important days for Italy (April 25), attracting junior athletes from all over Italy, as well as from neighboring Alpe Adria countries, is part of the national cycling calendar as a fixed point of the start of the season and in a historical-sporting context that very few other sporting events can boast," states Paolo Pinat of MOTOSTAFFETTA FRIULANA.
In May, in Monfalcone, volunteers of MOTOSTAFFETTA FRIULANA were engaged in the 2nd stage of the 14th Giro d'Italia Handbike, an initiative designed to promote inclusion and offer participating athletes, with and without disabilities, the opportunity to compete together and on equal terms to climb the final ranking, racing along a "one-hour and one-lap" course. "The Giro d'Italia Handbike is a leading sector initiative in Europe, with the dual objective of promoting Paralympic sports and enhancing the territory," confides Marco Blarzino, a member of MOTOSTAFFETTA FRIULANA. May continued with MOTOSTAFFETTA FRIULANA volunteers also present at the 19th stage of the Giro d'Italia cycling race starting from Mortegliano; the stage paid tribute to a population hurt by the 2023 bad weather but also to offer the world a postcard of Friuli from a region that is a land of champions and cradle of cycling.
Always in May, one of the most prestigious stops for volunteers was MOTOSTAFFETTA FRIULANA at the Nove Colli in Cesenatico, the most participated cycling granfondo; a true festival, with everything a festival should bring: many participants, a cheerful and relaxed atmosphere, a bit of healthy competition. Traditions to carry forward and a touch of magic.
The season continued in August, with MOTOSTAFFETTA FRIULANA members engaged in the 51st Cycling Tour Master of Friuli Venezia Giulia, which saw the participation of Paralympic athletes among others. An initiative that, in addition to giving many athletes the opportunity to join the competition, aims to launch a strong message of social inclusion and solidarity in the name of values that have always distinguished sports and cycling in particular. The tour, in addition to giving many athletes the opportunity to join the competition, took place on technically beautiful routes, allowing the discovery of a unique and fascinating territory like our region.
In September, MOTOSTAFFETTA FRIULANA members were involved in the 60th Cycling Tour of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region for under-23 and elite athletes, one of the oldest stage cycling races in Italy. Also in September, MOTOSTAFFETTA FRIULANA volunteers supported the security sector of the 24th Udine Half Marathon, which, despite the uncertainties of the eve, gave Udine a sparkling weekend focused on aggregation. October saw the members of MOTOSTAFFETTA FRIULANA alongside the organizers of the MYTHO Marathon, the first and only marathon in an equally unique territory: Friuli Venezia Giulia. A road race on the traditional distance of 42.195 km; the event saw the participation of over 1,600 participants, including runners, walkers, men and women, families and friends, who invaded the streets of Grado for the fourth edition of Mytho Marathon, an authentic weekend of sports and aggregation.
Always in October, MOTOSTAFFETTA FRIULANA was present in Trieste Miramare and San Giusto, for the Castles Race that saw the participation of 3,000 runners. A tradition that grows year after year, bringing innovations that make the race increasingly international: the Castles Race, which combines the timeless beauty of Miramare with that of San Giusto, has been enriched from a sports perspective with the team race, dedicated to under-23 national road running teams. Ten participants, with four boys and four girls at the start. The final kilometer, between Corso Italia and the San Giusto castle, with slopes well beyond 10 percent, has become a small "Zoncolan", an attraction for those who love effort, even if not everyone appreciates it during the race. An enemy to face, like the feared contrary bora wind. Together with professionals and amateurs, also the amateur crowd, started together for the family race, with arrival either at the San Giusto castle, for those who felt up to it, or in Piazza Unità. Overall significant numbers for a fully satisfied organization. Fundamental for the performance of the activity was the support of Promoturismo FVG iosonofriuliveneziagiulia with General Director Iacopo Mestroni, Friul Venezia Giulia Strade Spa and Fondazione Friuli of President Giuseppe Morandini.
Thus ends the 2024 season for the members of MOTOSTAFFETTA FRIULANA, ready for a sparkling 2025.
