A NEW TEAM AND THE MASTER CYCLOCROSS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR THE ALFREDO BINDA CYCLING SOCIETY

There are two new challenges for the Alfredo Binda Cycling Society, both concerning off-road wheels: the new S.C. Alfredo Binda CX Team and the organization of the Master Cyclocross World Championship for two years.
Thanks to the great passion of Alessandro Cottini, a member of the Alfredo Binda Cycling Society, and Alessia della Valle, the team's technical manager, the S.C. Alfredo Binda CX Team was born this year.
The team is composed of: Samuel Mazzucchelli, Master Category 1, current Italian champion who will try to defend the national jersey this year. Graziano Bonalda, Master Category 2. Ivan Colombo and Luca Frontini in the Juniors category. Daniele Signorelli, First-Year Cadets category, and Manuel Colombo, Second-Year Beginners category.
The technical staff consists of Alessia Della Valle, Graziano Bonalda, Samuel Mazzucchelli, and Antonio Vasco. The S.C. Binda team has already started competing in October, immediately choosing a national/international calendar with prestigious competitions. The races to date have yielded great results for both master athletes and younger riders. Particularly excellent performances by Ivan Colombo.
"After many years, with requests coming from various quarters - enthusiasts, professionals, citizens, and media - we have managed to revive the glorious racing team of the Alfredo Binda Cycling Society, starting for now with cyclocross. This team has seen numerous athletes and great champions grow to professional levels," states Renzo Oldani, President of the Alfredo Binda Cycling Society. "I hope this is just the first spark capable of triggering a new movement with people and technicians willing to build this new project dedicated to young athletes together."
Also in the realm of Cyclocross, the second novelty is that the Alfredo Binda Cycling Society is bringing the first Master Cyclo-Cross World Championship to Varese, Italy. The International Cycling Federation UCI has entrusted the Varese society with the organization of the Master Cyclo-Cross World Championships for the 2025 and 2026 biennium:
2026 MASTER CYCLO-CROSS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS – VARESE
The first World Championships dedicated to Cyclo-Cross amateurs in the masters category (from 35 to 80 years old) will take place next year and are scheduled from Friday, November 28th to Sunday, November 30th. The perfect location identified is the Bettole Hippodrome, in the heart of Varese, which will transform for a long weekend into the world cyclo-cross stadium. A race track will be set up inside. A course approximately 2.5 kilometers long with sections of sand, earth, grass, and asphalt. Natural and artificial obstacles will be positioned to make the track technical yet fascinating. The stands will be able to host the public, and areas will be dedicated to food & beverage. A space will be dedicated to the Race Village, and ample parking will be studied.
Two prestigious names in international Cyclo-Cross will design the course: Pascal Richard, Swiss champion, gold medalist at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics in road cycling, winner of the Tre Valli Varesine in 1990 and a Cyclo-Cross world championship; Erwin Vervecken, Belgian cyclo-cross and road cyclist, world champion in Cyclo-Cross three times in 2001, 2006, and 2007.
ùThe S.C. Binda wants to achieve a new participant record (like the 2018 Gran Fondo World Championship) and expects 1,500 cyclists from around the world in Varese, accompanied by family and friends, with an estimated economic impact of about 5,000 people in Varese for a long weekend. The Master Cyclocross World Championships will also be an opportunity to involve the entire local cycling movement, with particular attention to younger athletes. Collaboration with schools and various local sports organizations will be fundamental. Thanks to collaboration with the Province of Varese, the Municipality of Varese, and the Varese Chamber of Commerce, numerous side events will be organized, ideally connecting the Hippodrome to the city center, which will already be decorated for Christmas 2025. There will be a Santa Claus running race and moments to discover the beauties of the territory. This new world event is not meant to be "just" a bicycle race, but a festive moment that can involve the entire City.
