MONGIBELLO TEAM, A NEW WOMEN'S CYCLING TEAM IS BORN
WOMEN | 09/12/2024 | 08:07 In Sicily, at the foot of Mount Etna, a new reality in women's cycling is taking shape. Thanks to the partnership between Mongibello Team, a historic society organizing the Etna Marathon, and Liv Cycling, the global brand of bikes and accessories dedicated exclusively to the female world, 2025 will see a team composed entirely of girls competing on Sicilian and Italian racecourses. The team consists of 5 athletes in youth categories, between beginners and juniors, and an Elite rider, the strong Lithuanian champion Greta Karasiovaitė. The girls will primarily race in mountain bike competitions in almost all the most important national races, but we will also see them engaged in cyclocross, track, and road cycling. They will have Liv Pique Advanced and Langma Advanced bikes at their disposal and will compete with personalized women-specific clothing provided by Alè Cycling, while their post-race and training apparel is from Liv. The team will be followed by Federal Technical DS Giuseppe Zuccarello: "It's an exciting adventure that the girls are about to face. We are fortunate to have Greta Karasiovaitė in the team, who will be the leader and inspiring beacon for our young athletes. The goal is to perform well in national competitions, with a cohesive group of girls in a healthy and stimulating environment, for a path of continuous improvement." Mongibello Team President Maurizio Scalia: "We are at the beginning of a journey that, in our plans, will last a long time. We want to give equal dignity to women's cycling, which for many years in Sicily has been sidelined. We start with six girls, but we are absolutely ready to welcome more. This is an extremely costly project, just think of the travel expenses from Sicily to Northern Italy where the most important races are held. I would like to thank the companies that support us by associating their brand with this beautiful initiative." The first official appointment is set for January 12th at the Sicilian regional cyclocross championship. At the national level, the debut will be in Liguria, in Albenga, for the Winter Mountain Bike Championship.
