FEAR IN LONDON, TWO ATHLETES FLY OFF TRACK DURING UCI TRACK CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL

It happened at Lee Valley VeloPark, in London, completely sold out. During the women's keirin semifinal British athlete Katy Marchant and German Alessa-Catriona Pröpster collided and went over the barrier, flying into the crowd. The two athletes and four spectators were immediately assisted by the medical staff present: all people involved were transported for examinations, but updates seem to confirm that there are no serious consequences. Among the athletes, Pröpster suffered several bruises and appeared to be in evident shock while Marchant broke an arm. «WBD Sports, British Cycling, Lee Valley VeloPark and the Union Cycliste Internationale unanimously decided to suspend all further races for the evening - reads the statement issued a few minutes ago - and want to extend their best wishes for a speedy recovery to both riders and all interested spectators. We also want to thank the medical staff for their prompt response and continuous support». THE RACES. In the early races of the evening, Katie Archibald had secured the final success in female endurance by dominating the scratch and finishing second in the elimination, overtaken by Mexican Acevedo. In the women's speed, British athlete Finucane beat Russian Lysenko in the final, but the latter had already secured the Champions League success before the keirin test where the incident occurred. In men's speed, Dutch Harrie Lavreysen dominated the final against Australian Hoffman and secured the final success in the competition. In the men's scratch, finally, Belgian De Vylder won. The last finals, the women's keirin and men's elimination, as mentioned, were not contested.
