On Sunday, November 15th, on the occasion of the World Day in Memory of Road Traffic Victims, the Trento Committee of the Italian Cycling Federation will promote a campaign and demonstration to remember those who have lost their lives on the roads, particularly pedestrians and cyclists killed by excessive speed and driver distraction.
"A few seconds are not worth a life". Drawing on the words of Gioele Cobelli - brother of Adele, the fourteen-year-old girl struck and killed by a motorist last June during a training ride - the initiative aims to be a moment of remembrance, reflection, and awareness-raising on road safety, so that tragedies involving the most vulnerable road users are not forgotten and collective commitment to safer and more respectful mobility is strengthened.
The gathering is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. by bicycle in Piazza Lodron in Trento. From there, a moment of tribute to the victims of road violence will take place, with a minute of silence in front of bicycles laid on the ground, symbolizing the lives cut short on our roads.
The initiative, born from the impulse of the Trento Committee of Federciclismo and Fiab Friends of the Bicycle Aps, has also been embraced by the National Federation and fits ideally into the awareness-raising path promoted by the Committee on safety issues. A commitment that finds one of its main expressions in the "On the Right Road" event, the demonstration that for the past two years has opened the season and is organized together with Fiab Trento Friends of the Bicycle Aps, Uisp Trento, Legambiente – Trento Circle, Trentino Climate Network, Ciclostile – Bruno Social Center of Trento, Tridentum Bike and Trentino Sustainable Mobility Committee.
Remembering the victims also means taking on a responsibility: working so that every person can move on our roads without risking their life. Because no rush, no distraction, and no second is worth a life.
