At twenty-four years old, Kim Cadzow is retiring from professional cycling: the EF Education-Oatly athlete, New Zealand road and time trial champion last year, announced this through her social media pages.

A native of Tauranga, a town 200 kilometers from Auckland, Kim did not hide her reasons for the decision, revealing a relationship with cycling that had become worn out. "Cycling no longer made me happy and, day after day, it felt increasingly like a punishment. I love sport: it's my life, and I never wanted to reach the point of hating it," writes the cyclist, who finished sixth at Liège-Bastogne-Liège 2024 and won a stage and the overall classification of the Trofeo Ponente in Rosa that same year.

Having joined Visma Lease a Bike in 2023 and moving to EF Education-Oatly from the following season, Kim recalled her beginnings in her message and expressed gratitude to the people who stood by her, allowing her to represent New Zealand at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where she finished seventh in the time trial, behind Lotte Kopecky and ahead of Elisa Longo Borghini.

The New Zealand athlete, who has not competed in any major events this season, closes her message with advice for young cyclists: "Hold your friends close and your family even closer. Build around you a network of people who support you and don't be afraid to rely on them, because when all this is over, they will be the ones standing by your side," she writes.

EF Education-Oatly, also through social media, dedicated a post to their former athlete: "Thank you, Kim, for sharing so many laughs (and so many podiums) with us! You've ended your professional career but know that you've left an indelible mark on this sport."
