The suspicion that the crash in which Lauren Dickson was involved in the final 4 kilometres of today's stage at the Tour de Suisse Women could have more serious consequences than initially thought arose immediately, from the moment the British cyclist, instead of continuing, removed her helmet and stopped to consult with the race doctor.
The 26-year-old FDJ United – SUEZ cyclist, second in the general classification behind Longo Borghini, then got back on her bike and crossed the finish line in last credited position (like Reusser and other athletes, ed.) but with the same time as the stage winner due to the neutralization at the – 5 KM mark.
Late in the afternoon, the suspicion was unfortunately confirmed by a statement issued by the French team, which revealed that Dickson was transported to hospital where she underwent radiographic examinations, following which "doctors diagnosed a fractured collarbone".
FDJ United Suez wishes their athlete a speedy recovery and also informs that the team's medical staff will follow Dickson throughout her recovery process.
The British cyclist's withdrawal therefore reshapes the general classification of the Tour de Suisse Women, which will resume tomorrow with Longo Borghini in command and Van Dam in second position, 35" behind.
