The unexpected market move arrived with the Ferragosto heat and has immediate effect: Charlotte Kool has left Picnic PostNL to join Fenix Deceuninck. The Belgian team, where Sara Casasola also races, announced the news yesterday afternoon with a social media post reading "She's fast, she's explosive, she's here. Welcome Charlotte Kool. After recovering from her injury at the Baloise Ladies Tour, Charlotte will bring her sprint power to our team".
Kool also shared her thoughts on social media: "This week was my last with Team Picnic PostNL. I will always be grateful for the opportunities I've had, the support I received, and the unforgettable moments I shared with this team. In recent years, I've grown as a cyclist and as a person, and for this I am truly grateful. This goodbye hurts, because it also means saying goodbye to my fantastic teammates. Thanks for being such an important part of my journey and for making these moments possible. A special thanks to all our sponsors over the years, your support allowed us to chase our goals and create many incredible memories. Now it's time for a new chapter in my career, one I'm truly excited about. I was offered an opportunity I simply couldn't refuse, and I can't wait to face the new challenges ahead of me," wrote the Dutch rider from Blaricum.
Twenty-six years old as of last May 6th, Charlotte has so far achieved 21 victories in her career: the first came in 2021 when, wearing the NXTG jersey, she beat Balsamo and Guarischi at the finish line in Knokke-Heist on the second day of the Baloise Ladies Tour. In the same location, a few weeks ago, the Dutch rider obtained her most recent success, the only one so far in the 2025 season.
The Picnic PostNL team, with which Kool spent four seasons and won the first two stages of the 2024 Tour while wearing the yellow jersey, also issued a brief thank you statement. "Charlotte went from being a reliable lead-out to one of the most exciting sprinters in the group. She gave us stage victories in the Tour de France Femmes and the pride of wearing the yellow jersey, as well as victories across Europe. Charlotte has played a significant role in the success story of our women's team," the Picnic PostNL team note reads.
And further: "After Charlotte learned of a potential interest, her representatives and both teams engaged in constructive discussions, leading to a solution that works well for everyone. The Picnic PostNL Team thanks Charlotte for her dedication and results and wishes her every success with her new team".
It is not yet known when and where Kool will make her debut with the new team, but certainly the move by which Fenix Deceuninck secured Kool's sporting performance until 2028 opens up new potential market scenarios in women's cycling.
