ITALIAN CYCLOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS OF FAE' DI ODERZO PRESENTED
CYCLOCROSS | 12/12/2024 | 08:11 The curtain has risen on the 22nd edition of the Ciclocross del Ponte di Fae' di Oderzo which, extraordinarily, this year will not be held on the classic December 8th date but will take place from January 10th to 12th and will be valid as the Italian Championship for UCI categories and amateur categories. The presentation of the national event took place at the Locanda da Bertola in Negrisia di Ponte di Piave during a convivial evening where Mirko Barattin, president of the organizing society Asd Sportivi del Ponte, welcomed almost a hundred people who attended the vernissage. Among these, in addition to many volunteers collaborating on the event's success, sponsors who wanted to honor the celebration with their presence, authorities were also present, including the mayor of Oderzo Maria Sgardellato, the councilor of Ponte di Piave Matteo Buso, the Italian national cyclocross coach Daniele Pontoni, the FCI Off-Road Sector Manager Massimo Ghirotto, the Provincial FCI President Giorgio Dal Bo, the National FCI Councilor Fabrizio Cazzola and entrepreneur Remo Mosole who, speaking of the "extended cycling family", wanted to give his "blessing" to the Italian Championships of Fae' di Oderzo. Mirko Barattin in his speech thanked sponsors and volunteers announcing that, among the vineyards of Borgo Barattin, approximately 500 athletes will compete, 18 national jerseys will be awarded among amateurs, 6 among junior, under 23, Elite women and men categories plus those for the 2 Team Relay winners among amateurs and "agonists". He then confessed that in the past there had been the desire to organize the "Absolutes", particularly on the occasion of the twentieth edition of the Ciclocross del Ponte, emphasizing that this dream, although faded a couple of years ago, is finally finding fulfillment. "If on one side we won't have the international touch that has characterized 'Fae' di Oderzo' since the first editions, this absence will be more than compensated by the ardor that all competitors will put on the field to obtain the most coveted jersey, the national one" Barattin concluded, assuring that the entire organizational machine of Sportivi del Ponte is already working to set up a spectacular event where hospitality, fun and passion for cyclocross will be sure protagonists. The authorities present repeatedly highlighted how the uniqueness of the Ciclocross del Ponte is that a village consisting of a few houses in the middle of the countryside, in the absence of infrastructure and public venues, transforms, on the occasion of the cross race, into an event of great excellence in terms of organization and large public attendance. Among those present was also the current Elite Italian Champion Filippo Fontana who, despite having recently returned to cross competitions, assured both his presence in Fae' di Oderzo and his strong motivation to confirm himself at the top, taking into account that proximity to home will favor an important presence of fans and friends who will support him. Part of the evening was dedicated to presenting the cyclocross team of Sportivi del Ponte where all interviewed athletes expressed the desire to give their best at the Italian Championships, particularly the Elite Simone Pederiva and the Under 23 Beatrice Fontana, who are confident of achieving great satisfaction in Fae' di Oderzo where the Team Relay will also be in the game on January 11th.
