MOVISTAR. Amador e Rui Costa, punte per il Tour of Beijing

Per il finale di stagione il team Movistar punta su Andrey Amador, vincitore di tappa al Giro d'Italia, e su Rui Costa, vincitore in questa stagione del Giro di Svizzera. La formazione spagnola ha ufficializzato con un comunicato stampa gli uomini che schiererà al Tour of Beijing, che sfoggeranno una nuova divisa in cui sarà visibile il marchio della compagnia telefonica partner di Movistar, China Unicom. A supportare Amador e Rui Costa, che cercheranno di raccogliere importanti punti World Tour, ci saranno: Juan Jose Cobo, Iván Gutiérrez, Giovanni Visconti, Pablo Lastras, Jesús Herrada e Enrique Sanz Unzue.

Amador and Costa looking to continue breakthrough years for Movistar

Movistar will look to their two 2012 breakthrough riders in Giro d’Italia stage winner Andrey Amador and Tour of Suisse champion Rui Costa to finish off a successful season at the Tour of Beijing next month. Their appearance will also mark another step in the globalisation of the sport with the Spanish outfit to wear a specially designed kit featuring Chinese Telefonica’s partner China Unicom.
In a once-off sponsorship opportunity for the 2012 season, the team kit will feature China Unicom branding on its jersey and knicks for the Tour of Beijing in what is an extension of their partnership with principle sponsor Movistar.
“This is the first time we will race with China Unicom in our jersey. We are fully conscious of the responsibility we have, but it is an extra motivation for the Team" states general manager Eusebio Unzue.
Costa, a versatile rider who also featured on the podium at the GP Ouest France – Plouay, Tour of Romandie and GP Quebec this season, will join Amador in the hunt for the final WorldTour points to push the team into a top three position on the world ranking.
The pair will be strongly supported by an experienced line up including 2011 Vuelta a Espana winner Juan Jose Cobo, 2005 world time trial silver medallist Iván Gutiérrez, three-time Italian road race champion Giovanni Visconti and one of the few riders in the peloton to have won a stage at each of the three grand tours, Pablo Lastras.
“I think we're bringing quite a competitive roster," appoints Unzué. "Rui Costa is making a sensational season and we hope he can round it off there, but apart from him, there are riders like Visconti, Amador or Lastras who are finishing the year strong and might also be up-front. Last year's event was a beautiful experience and hopefully we can notch up some victories this season."
The young dynamic duo of Jesús Herrada and Enrique Sanz Unzue will complete the line up.
The 2012 Tour of Beijing will be held from the 9th to the 13th of October as the last event on the UCI WorldTour calendar. Starting from the historic
Tiananmen Square the five-day Tour will also feature some of China’s top tourist attractions including the Bird’s Nest Stadium and the Great Wall.

Andrey AMADOR (CRC, 26)
Greatly admired by his country, 2012 has been a breakthrough season for Amador. The 26-year-old won stage 14 of the Giro d’Italia and finished 3rd on stage 12. He also made his first Olympic Games appearance in London.
Juan Jose COBO (ESP, 31)
The highly decorated Cobo won stage 10 of the Tour de France in 2008, finished third in the Vuelta a Burgos in 2011 and most notably won the Vuelta a Espana in 2011. In 2012 he again rode in the Tour de France and the Vuelta.
Rui COSTA (POR, 25)
A versatile rider who has found himself on the podium on multiple occasions in 2012 finishing 1st at the Tour of Suisse, 2nd at the GP Ouest France - Plouay and 3rd at the Tour of Romandie and GP Québec. A stage winner at the 2011 Tour de France and 2011 GP Montreal.
Iván GUTIÉRREZ (ESP, 33)
The only Spanish rider to win the world under 23 time trial world championship who also has a silver medal in the senior title (2005). A four-time national time trial champion and 2010 road race champion.
Jesús HERRADA (ESP, 22)
A young rider with a bright future according to his team. A two-time Spanish junior time trial champion and also in the under 23 ranks. Won stage two of the Vuelta a Asturias and finished 6th in the senior time trial national championships in 2012.
Pablo LASTRAS (ESP, 36)
A veteran of 14 years as a professional rider, Lastras is one of the few in the peloton who can claim to have won a stage in each of the three grand tours. Other notable performances include winning stages of the Tour de Suisse, the Eneco Tour and the Volta a Portugal.
Enrique SANZ UNZUE (ESP, 22)
One of the few riders to have won a stage in his neo-pro year, Enrique Sanz Unzue looks to be a rider of the future. He won stage two of the Vuelta a la Com. de Madrid in 2011 and in 2012 he has finished second in the Vuelta a Castilla y León and third in the Circuito de Getxo.
Giovanni VISCONTI (ITA, 29)
A three-time Italian road race champion who is on the rise during this late season. Boasts over 20 wins as a professional and wore the leader’s jersey at the Giro d’Italia for a week in 2008. Victorious in the Circuito de Getxo and Klasika Primavera in 2012.
