A sensational, surprising, unexpected comeback: after concluding his experience with Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe, Primoz Roglic could return to wearing the Visma Lease a Bike jersey. This is what Dutch colleagues at Wielerflits are reporting, having found confirmation from multiple sources.
The Slovenian, who at the beginning of the year seemed determined to compete in his final season, later changed his mind during the season, opening the door to a new adventure: the first to show concrete interest in him were the Belgian team Lotto Intermarchè, followed by Tudor Pro Cycling, XDS Astana and Pinarello Q36.5, who gradually withdrew.
Roglic's manager, Mattia Galli, spoke shortly after the Lombardia about a "decision to be made within a few days, a few weeks, in any case by the end of October". The rider's wife, Lora, told Sportal: “I think he's not ready to stay home yet”. After the Lombardia, Primoz said he had not yet made a decision about his future, while just days before the Lombard classic he had told colleague Daniel Benson: «Do I still have the motivation to continue? I think so. I think I'll race again. But it could also be that the Lombardia is my last race as a professional. If I had won the Vuelta, I would have definitely stopped. But this way...».
Now the door opens to a possible return to Visma, the team that welcomed him in 2016 bringing him into the World Tour and with which the Slovenian remained until 2023. Then came the move to Red Bull Bora, a positive season in 2024 with the conquest of the Vuelta a España and the Critérium du Dauphiné, in 2025 success in the Volta a Catalunya and this year a difficult season with long months of absence, second place in the Vuelta España, the European title and the national time trial championship.
It is true that Visma Lease a Bike currently has 30 riders on its roster, which is the maximum, but you just need to "shuffle" things a bit with the Team Devo and a spot for Roglic's possible arrival can be found...
