Excellent signs for Italian cyclocross in the spectacular night race at Woerden, in the Netherlands. Under the lights of the traditional Dutch international event, Rebecca Gariboldi (De Ceuster Bouwkranen) and Lucia Bramati (FAS Airport Services Guerciotti) stood out by securing two prestigious top-ten finishes.
The Brianza-born Gariboldi finished in sixth place, confirming her competitiveness against the world's best specialists in the discipline. Bramati's performance was also very positive, as she crossed the line in eighth position, achieving a result of absolute value in a context of the highest level.
Victory went to Luxembourg's Marie Schreiber, who delivered a splendid performance following her success last Saturday at Meulebeke, Belgium. Behind her came the Dutch riders Aniek van Alphen, world champion Lucinda Brand and Inge van der Heijden.
In the men's race, Dutch rider Joris Nieuwenhuis (Heizomat Cube) took victory, ahead of Belgian Niels Vandeputte (Alpecin-Deceuninck) and Spaniard Felipe Orts Lloret. Best Italian finisher was Federico Ceolin in fourteenth place, while Tommaso Cafueri finished in twentieth position.
Among the juniors, finally, the home riders dominated with Loek Hovers winning ahead of his compatriots Stijn Van Dongem, Kai Van Hoof and Gijs Van Den Biggelaar, sealing an evening painted entirely in orange on the roads and fields of Woerden.
