Dramatically excluded from the British national team competing at the track world championships currently taking place in Shanghai, Matthew Richardson issued a statement today shared on social media. The reigning European champion in sprint and keirin wrote: "I understand the seriousness of what has been reported in recent days regarding my withdrawal from the Shanghai World Championships. The Federation has announced that it is investigating the matter according to established procedures and I can say that I will fully cooperate with these procedures. I can assure you that I will address the situation appropriately and I am sorry for any feelings that may have been hurt by this situation. I am deeply disappointed to have to miss the World Championships and I wish the British team and all participants the very best. However, I now ask that my privacy and that of my family be respected going forward".
