For Montecatini Terme, it was two wonderful days of sport, spectacle and entertainment with the events organized by G.S. Le Casette in the Thermal Park area, with the closing event entrusted to the 75th Ezio Del Rosso Grand Prix won decisively by Veronese Tommaso Anastasia.
But let's go in order, recalling Saturday afternoon inside the Thermal Park the "Champion's Ride" open to all on an 800-meter circuit. An ecological, tourist and cultural ride that also saw the participation of several former riders such as Visconti, Tafi, Giordani, Fornaciari, Arzilli, Selvaggi, Capocchi Santerini, Matteo Ballerini and cycling champion Edita Pucinskaite.
Today instead the main event with the "Classica delle foglie morte" (Classic of the Dead Leaves) reserved for elite and under 23 riders that renewed success, spectacle and emotions. Anastasia's victory, the first as an amateur for the young Venetian athlete guided by sports director and former under 23 world champion Francesco Chicchi from Versilia, is indisputable, given what he demonstrated in the final stages of the race when, once in the lead, he managed to contain the chase of the pursuers who fractured noticeably behind him. Anastasia is also one of the youngest winners of the Pistoia race, as he has not yet turned twenty, having been born in November 2006. A success that made him extremely happy, having prevailed over more decorated opponents such as Italian Milesi, second at the finish line on Viale Verdi more than half a minute back, and Tuscan under 23 champion Gialli and the others in turn.
Regarding the 132 starters, 35 completed the race which proved selective with the new course including three passages over the Colle di Buggiano and seven times up the Vico climb. Also noteworthy was the average speed exceeding 42 km/h and a race that did not disappoint from the very beginning after the official start from Corso Roma. Sports enthusiasts in considerable numbers followed the Ezio Del Rosso Grand Prix with enthusiasm, especially during the finale when the winner took the lead of the race and behind him other athletes from various teams did everything they could to reach him. Excellent organization by G.S. Le Casette with the patronage of the Municipality and many sports enthusiasts present as is tradition.
