Ezra Caudell has been officially discharged from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital at the end of last week, 31 days after the serious accident that occurred during the Philadelphia Cycling Classic.
The very young American rider from Modern Adventure will now begin an intensive rehabilitation phase on an inpatient basis at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, followed by an outpatient rehabilitation program scheduled in his hometown, Atlanta (Georgia).
Although the road to recovery is still long, Ezra has already made giant strides – both literally and figuratively. Prior to his discharge, he was already walking along the hospital corridors and the medical team expects that both the pulmonary contusions and fractures will continue to heal without the need for further interventions.
Equally encouraging are the advances on the neurological front. Ezra continues to show significant improvements from the brain injury he sustained, making progress every day in terms of physical strength, cognitive abilities, communication, and independence. Recovery will take time, but the progress made over the past month has been extraordinary; seeing him walk, interact with those around him, and move forward to the rehabilitation phase represents a fundamental milestone.
The determination, work ethic, resilience, and attitude that have brought him to the top of his sport will undoubtedly prove invaluable for the journey that lies ahead.
Ezra's family and the Modern Adventure Pro Cycling team have full confidence in him and remain deeply grateful for the constant support they have received.
