Following Alessia Vigilia's success in the women's race, San Luca crowns another Italian talent. Davide Piganzoli wins the Giro dell'Emilia, getting the better of great favorite Tom Pidcock (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team), forced for the third consecutive year to settle for second place. Third place goes to Oscar Onley (Netcompany Ineos) ahead of his teammates of the Valtellina rider Ben Tulett and Matteo Jorgenson, with the latter having contributed to Brandon McNulty's world championship success in Montreal last Sunday, today playing a key role once again for his team leader. Seventh place for Lorenzo Fortunato (XDS Astana), outside the top ten but among the protagonists in the finale Lorenzo Mark Finn (Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe).
«I've been racing this event for four years, I've always liked it. The form was there after the Tour of Luxembourg and the Worlds, I knew I was strong but I was uncertain about the time difference. Team Visma Lease a Bike's objective today was to arrive with Ben Tulett in the finale, who was our fastest card, along with me and Jorgenson. On the last climb I wasn't feeling great so I told my teammates "I'm going to the front of everyone", they made a gap for me and the opponents looked at each other so it went for the best - comments the day's winner. - This year I've really made a big step up in level, for which I must thank the team and those who have always been there like my family and girlfriend. My next objective? Lombardia, next Saturday».
