Second day of the European Cycling Championships in Ljubljana, Slovenia, opened by the men's junior category road race. Italian technical commissioner Dino Salvoldi relies on a squad of absolute value, composed of six riders ready to play a leading role on the Slovenian roads. The course features a circuit of five laps of 22 km for a total of 110 kilometers.

The squad includes three athletes already competing at the recent Montreal World Championships: the South Tyrolean Brandon Fedrizzi, the Italian champion Enrico Balliana and the Veronese Patrik Pezzo Rosola. Completing the Italian sextet will be the Marche native Alessandro Battistoni from Pool Cantù GB Junior, the Vicenza native Marco Andrea Pierotto from Autozai Contri and the Milanese Marco Zoco from Bustese Olonia. A compact and high-quality group that presents several tactical solutions and aims to be a protagonist in the continental race, with the objective of competing for medals.

The competition, however, will be particularly fierce and Italy will have to contend with some of the strongest nations in the international scene. Standing out above all is the Spaniard Benjamin Noval, the season's dominant rider and fresh world champion in both the time trial and road race in Montreal, alongside his compatriots Aitor Martinez and Luca Martinez, ready to make Spain one of the reference teams in the race.

Great attention should also be paid to Belgium and Denmark, two traditionally solid selections in youth competitions. The Belgians rely on Vic De Smet and Sander Willems, while the Danish team counts on the qualities of Julius Birkedal and Marius Linde, riders capable of making an impact on demanding courses. Finally, do not underestimate the home favorites from Slovenia, intent on exploiting the home advantage with a trio of certain value composed of Gal Stare, Vanja Kuntaric and Maj Bohak, on whom the local movement's greatest hopes rest for achieving a prestigious result in front of the home crowd.

Making the list of podium contenders even richer are several riders capable of entering the fight for medals. Among these stand out the Austrian Michael Hettegger, the Swede Elias Wandel, already bronze at the recent Montreal World Championships, the Pole Maksymilian Matyasik, the Norwegian Kristian Flaterud and the Czech Marek Stiblik.

Also worth noting are the Swiss Antoine Salamin, the German Lenny Karstedt and the always formidable Dutch team fielding Jop Van Den Biggelaar, Loek Hovers and Finn Bastiaanssen, athletes with excellent qualities and ready to exploit every favorable situation.
