The big day of the 2026 elite men's road world championship race is here. The 2026 Road World Cycling Championship in Montreal is the perfect stage for a legendary showdown. With Tadej Pogačar's absence, the throne of the elite men's road race is vacant and five phenomenal riders promise to set the Mont-Royal circuit ablaze. The 273.4-kilometer course with over 3,500 meters of elevation gain will deliver an elimination race, where tactics and endurance will make the real difference: starting from Brossard, 112 kilometers on flat terrain without particular difficulties, then 12 laps of the world circuit. 184 riders representing 61 nations are at the start.

The Italian National team led by Roberto Amadio arrives in Montreal with the role of "luxury outsider," ready to exploit the weight of the race that will rest entirely on the shoulders of Belgium and the Netherlands. The Azzurri selection perfectly combines the experience of veterans with the freshness of the new generation: The climbing trio (Ciccone, Pellizzari, Piganzoli) while there is great curiosity for the debut of the very young Lorenzo Mark Finn, a pure talent who is not afraid of important stages.
Alberto Bettiol and Matteo Trentin are the true "captains in the race," riders equipped with fundamental experience in a World Championship without team radio communications. Mattia Cattaneo and Christian Scaroni will be the tireless engines to cover attempts from afar and protect the captains.

Paul Seixas: The French talent from Decathlon, silver at the Montreal GP and bronze in the time trial, who races with the support of an entire nation and has stated without hesitation that he is aiming only for gold.

The second tier of favorites for the 2026 Montreal World Championship contains a density of talent, transforming them into perfect "shadow men" ready to upset the odds if the five big names mark each other too tightly. On a grueling circuit like Mont-Royal, riders like Primož Roglič, Mads Pedersen, Tom Pidcock, Juan Ayuso and Enric Mas, Brandon McNulty, Matteo Jorgenson and Quinn Simmons, Tobias Johannessen, Michael Storer, Jan Christen, Felix Gall and Afonso Eulalio become dangerous.
