The penultimate world championship event in Montreal features the race reserved for the elite women's category. The race promises to be extremely tough and selective: the 141 athletes at the start, representing 57 nations, will compete over the unprecedented and demanding distance of 180 kilometers. Starting from Brossard, with a flat section of about sixty kilometers before tackling nine laps of the Montreal circuit.

The Italian national team takes to the starting line with a competitive squad of seven Italian athletes, united around the undisputed leadership of captain Elisa Longo Borghini (fresh from gold in the mixed relay and fourth place in the time trial). At her side the Verbania-born Francesca Barale (Movistar), the Udine native Sara Casasola (Fenix Premier Tech), the Turin-based Eleonora Camilla Gasparrini (UAE Team L'IMAD), the Cuneo native Erica Magnaldi (UAE Team L'IMAD), the Bergamo native Silvia Persico (UAE Team L'IMAD) and the Valtellina native Monica Trinca Colonel (Liv AlUla Jayco), also already on top of the world thanks to her triumph in the mixed relay.

THE FAVORITES. All eyes are on Dutch rider Demi Vollering, considered the woman to beat and hungry for redemption after the disappointment of finishing eighth in the time trial. Spain counters by fielding the ace Paula Blasi – the revelation of the year, fresh winner of the Vuelta and teammate of Longo Borghini at UAE Team L'IMAD.

Switzerland can dream big by fielding the fresh world time trial champion Marlen Reusser (chasing a historic double) and Noemi Rüegg. Among the most accredited contenders for the rainbow jersey are also the Polish Katarzyna Niewiadoma, the French Juliette Labous, Berthet and Cédrine Kerbaol, the Germans Liane Lippert and Antonia Niedermaier, as well as the Belgian and former world champion Lotte Kopecky.

Completing the list of the most dangerous athletes are the very young British rider Zoe Bäckstedt, the Mauritian Kimberley Le Court and the reigning Olympic champion, American Kristin Faulkner. Finally, maximum attention to the Canadian hosts: spotlights on Magdeleine Vallieres as the defending champion, supported by Sarah Van Dam and the always unpredictable Alison Jackson, ready to exploit the home advantage to pull off the upset of the day.
