The selector of the Spanish junior team Eleuterio Anguita Hinojosas has been banned from the 2026 Worlds in Montreal, Canada and punished with a hefty fine by the UCI for driving conduct well beyond regulations. The team manager was indeed driving the Iberian team car during the junior race won by one of his riders, Benjamín Noval: falling behind, he tried to make up ground by speeding at extremely high velocity, only to literally take flight over a bump, rally-style. Fortunately the vehicle landed without leaving the road, but what would have happened if he had lost control, given the crowds gathered just meters away?

Here is the video that went viral in no time, shared by media outlets and regular cycling enthusiasts. You can see Noval's passage and, moments later, here comes the team car arriving at breakneck speed. There's not even time to notice the bump before it acts as a springboard: the car takes flight and lands heavily, somehow managing to stay on its trajectory. It all happens in a few seconds, leaving no room for intervention or possible escape for spectators on either side. Nothing happened, but the risk was extremely high and so the UCI brought down the disciplinary hammer on Eleuterio Anguita Hinojosas.

The jury's statement is unequivocal: Vehicle operator - fine of 1,000 CHF and exclusion from the entire World Championship in Montreal, Canada. Eleuterio Anguita Hinojosa, born in '69, is the selector of the Spanish junior team, but has a past as a rider between the '90s and early 2000s. During his career he managed to win a stage at the Vuelta de España in 1997 and also at the Vuelta a Burgos the following year.
