Lidl-Trek announces the signing of Igor Arrieta: the Spanish rider will join the team starting from the 2027 season with a contract that will bind him to the team until 2029.
At just 23 years old, Arrieta has already established himself as one of the most promising young Spanish riders. Originally from Uharte Arakil in Navarra, he completed his progression through Spanish youth categories before making his WorldTour debut with UAE Team Emirates in 2024.
A versatile climber with great endurance for demanding stage races, Arrieta has made remarkable progress in 2026. This year he achieved his first WorldTour victory by winning spectacularly on the fifth stage of the Giro d'Italia, overcoming the difficulties of a crash and a wrong turn in a thrilling finale in Potenza. Throughout the season, he also secured third place in the AlUla Tour general classification and eighth at the Itzulia Basque Country, confirming his growing potential in stage races.
Commenting on his move to Lidl-Trek, Arrieta stated: "I'm really excited to sign with Lidl-Trek; it's a top-level team that continues to grow thanks to Lidl's ownership. I can't wait to continue developing as a rider in the coming seasons. I've improved consistently in recent years and I believe I can continue this growth trajectory at Lidl-Trek. I'm really happy to be able to race alongside great talents like Skjelmose, Pedersen, Ciccone and all the other guys on the team".
Arrieta will join an ambitious roster that continues to combine the presence of established leaders with a new generation of riders; this will offer the Spaniard the opportunity to further develop his abilities while contributing to the team's ambitions in the Grand Tours and stage races.
CEO Andy Schleck is also enthusiastic about welcoming Arrieta to the team: "The fifth stage of this year's Giro d'Italia delivered one of the most thrilling finales of the race; Igor's victory in Potenza impressed us, highlighting not only his abilities and competitive talent, but also his potential as a future star. We believe Igor has a brilliant career ahead of him and we can't wait to work with him and see him grow".
Thanks to a three-year agreement that will bind him to the team until the 2029 season, Arrieta will have the time and support necessary to continue his development and take the next steps in what promises to be an exciting career. "I really hope to grow as a rider in every aspect: climbing, on the flats and in time trials; I can't wait to find my place within the team. From the outside, it looks like a real family and it's an environment I'd very much like to be part of".
